Itzel Rodriguez
B.D.S. Dr. Itzel Rodriguez was born and raised in a small village in the State of Veracruz, Mexico. Her journey into dentistry began at Universidad Veracruzana dental school, and then one year of experience working at the Family Medicine Unit #21 at the Mexican Institute of Health (IMSS). Her contributions serving the underserved population of her native Veracruz were highly valuable. When traveling for the first time to California to visit her grandma and uncle who live there, she met her husband on the airplane. The following year after finishing dental school she married and moved to Los Angeles to start a new life with her husband. Then, she began ESL classes and went to College in hopes that by learning English she could have the opportunity to continue with her dental career in the US. Dr. Itzel found an incredible organization near where she and her husband lived called Meet Each Need with Dignity, (M.E.N.D.), a non-profit dental clinic located in the San Fernando Valley. She spent a few years volunteering as a dental assistant and as an interpreter for Spanish speaking patients while studying for her dental board exams. This experience truly ignited her passion to help the Latino community and underserved people in the Los Angeles area. Her focus on children began when she did her social and community service in Veracruz and had numerous cases with kids suffering from early childhood caries. She is very happy being part of the Advanced Clinical Training at UCLA pediatric dentistry, and she is looking forward to discovering new, preventive, and more effective ways to combat oral health risks and issues among pediatric patients. Itzel is a mom of a four-year-old named Eduardo Santiago, whom she loves to give lots of hugs every day and play either baseball, soccer, or basketball with. In her free time she enjoys listening and dancing to Latino music, going hiking, or just traveling to explore new places around California. |
